We are celebrating 10 years of WerteInitiative
Precisely in challenging times, it was important to us to use the occasion of our association’s anniversary to send a signal for the strengthening of our liberal democracy as the foundation of a social coexistence worth living. That is why, at a traditional Shabbat dinner on 28 June 2024, in the presence of federal and state politicians, members, friends and network partners of WerteInitiative, we looked back on the last 10 years of joint commitment to securing a Jewish future.
After words of welcome from our chairman of the board Elio Adler , the liberal rabbi Jasmin Andriani and the orthodox rabbi Yehuda Teichtal spoke the blessings over the Shabbat candles, wine and bread.
We are grateful for the appreciative and supportive words of greeting from
Jörn Thießen, representing the Bundesministerium des Innern und für Heimat,
Daniel Botmann for the Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland,
Ruppert Stüwe, MdB for the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag,
Dr. Ottilie Klein, MdB for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag,
Max Lucks, MdB for the Bündnis 90/Grüne parliamentary group in the Bundestag
and State Secretary Benjamin Strasser, MdB for the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag.
Award of the Tacheles Prize
On the occasion of our tenth anniversary we honoured the commitment of the young Jewish generation with a prize. For this we awarded for the first time the Tacheles Prize for services to Jewish life in Germany .
The first prizewinners are the members of the board of the Jüdische Studierendenunion Deutschland (JSUD): Hanna Veiler, Deborah Kogan, Jacob Horowitz, Lisa Michajlova and Noam Petri as well as the co-opted members Esther Rubins and Alexandra Krioukov.
The prize was presented by our board, with a laudatory speech by Ronya Othmann . The ceremony was accompanied musically by members of the school choir of the Jüdisches Gymnasium Moses Mendelssohn . We thank Danielle, Sophia, Anna and Camille for the beautiful vocal performances, and choir director Niklas Mihr for the accompaniment on the piano
Especially since the massacre of 7 October 2023, the members of the board have distinguished themselves as loud, well-informed and analytical voices for Jewish life in Germany. With their tireless work they have made a great contribution to securing a Jewish future in Germany and beyond.
We thank the JSUD board members from the bottom of our hearts for their significant contributions and hope that they will continue to be a source of inspiration and courage for our community.
