Where: online stream via FacebookParis, Nice, Lyon, Dresden and Vienna. These are only the most recent places of Islamist attacks in Europe and the most extreme manifestations of Islamism. But Islamism does not begin only with jihadism. Islamists turn against the achievements of our free democratic basic order and legitimise their stance by referring to Islam. They reject constitutional values such as the principle of secularity, of equal rights, of freedom of religion and of sexual self-determination.
Radical Islamist currents have grown quietly and unnoticed. Antisemitism is a central feature of their ideology.
The two Viennese Islamism experts Heiko Heinisch and Nina Scholz examine the dangers of this development for our liberal society. They take a critical look at the role of Islamist organisations, at problematic attitudes in many Muslim families, but also at the instrumentalisation of Muslims as scapegoats by right-wing populist movements.
Together with the two of them we want to discuss the effects of the terrorist attacks, the role of legalistic Islamism and possible counter-strategies from politics and civil society in dealing with Islamists.
Heiko Heinisch is a historian and author. The subject area in which he publishes ranges from antisemitism and the National Socialist persecution of the Jews through to human rights, integration and Islam.
Nina Scholz is a political scientist and author. She researches and publishes on the topics of National Socialism, antisemitism and Islam and human rights.The conversation is moderated by Elio Adler.
