The increase in antisemitic incidents in Germany’s arts and cultural sector is to be understood as a symptom of a deep-seated, structural problem and calls for action. Transparency in the appointment of juries, selection committees and artistic director positions, promotion of Jewish and also pro-Israeli positions in the arts sector, funding conditions (IHRA), reporting obligations for publicly funded cultural institutions and raising the awareness of public prosecutors’ offices with regard to antisemitic codes can be effective mechanisms in combating the spread of antisemitic resentment in Germany’s arts sector.
