The much-discussed Demokratiefördergesetz must come. And it must come, among other things, with sufficient, longer-term, structural funding, with quality control of content and with clearly defined possibilities of access. We have understanding for the economically difficult situation in which Germany finds itself after the coronavirus package of measures. But precisely in times like these, when haters are trying to divide our society further, it is important to promote democracy actively and to secure the commitment of successful initiatives on a lasting basis.
