Event in cooperation with the Mideast Freedom Forum (MFFB), the American Jewish Commitee Berlin and the Deutsch-Israelische Gesellschaft HamburgIn April 2020 the Federal Government issued a ban on activities against the terrorist organisation Hezbollah. Hezbollah is controlled and financed from Iran and therefore constitutes a danger in Germany, in particular for Jewish and Israeli institutions as well as for Iranian oppositionists living here in exile.
In Hamburg the security authorities are monitoring around 30 Hezbollah supporters who, among other things, frequent the „Islamisches Zentrum Hamburg“ (IZH). This centre is – like Hezbollah – influenced from Iran. The Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz describes the IZH as the „most important propagandistic and organisational institution of the Iranian regime in Europe“.
Following the ban on Hezbollah, the following questions, among others, arise: what relationship does the Islamisches Zentrum Hamburg actually have with the government in Tehran, and can the centre continue to be linked to the City of Hamburg by a state treaty? What consequences does the state treaty have for the development of Islamism and antisemitism in Hamburg and beyond?
