Dear Lord Mayor Horn,
in our letter to you of 10 June this year we set out our criticism of the partnership between your city of Freiburg and the Iranian city of Isfahan. Developments in Iran confirm our position: for weeks the mullah regime has been acting with the utmost severity against the population. Standing up for equal treatment of the sexes, for religious freedom and against the dictatorial oppression by the regime deserves the unequivocal support of all democrats. Iranian women and Iranians who stand up for universal fundamental values are shot, abducted and tortured. Yesterday the regime-critical rapper Toumaj Salehi was arrested by the authorities and taken away to a prison in Isfahan. There he is probably being tortured at present. Against this background we repeat our demand of June: the town twinning between Freiburg and Isfahan upgrades the Iranian regime, which oppresses women, tortures and murders. This upgrading should come to an end now at the latest.
We reserve the right to publish this letter and your reply. We remain available to you for a conversation.
Yours sincerely
Elio Adler
