Friends visiting. Yesterday we were able to welcome the board of the Kurdische Gemeinde Deutschland, Ali Ertan Toprak, Mona Kizilhan and Mehmet Tanriverdi, with whom we have for years felt closely connected politically as partners in the struggle for free democratic values and against antisemitism and extremism.
The topics on which Kurdish and Jewish life in this country depend have large areas of overlap: be it the awareness of the importance of recognition and representation as an equal part of our society, or the painful experience of continuing threat from the same extremist, antisemitic and racist groups and actors, such as the Islamist „Grey Wolves”, classified as right-wing extremist by the Verfassungsschutz, or organisations here that are close to the Islamist mullah regime in Iran.
This makes it all the more important to stand up together and visibly for the strengthening of democracy and freedom. We are glad to have our Kurdish allies at our side in this. We warmly thank them for the exchange and look forward to future cooperation.
