Julia Klöckner, in very good spirits and keenly interested, received us immediately after the plenary session in the Reichstag building. She was already somewhat familiar with our association, but asked to be briefed on further details. Ms Klöckner offered to support the WerteInitiative and made a number of suggestions as to how we might organise our work more efficiently.
For our part, we made clear to her that the many challenges of the current social situation call for greater engagement by the state – not state disengagement. Such engagement is needed in every area: integration, public representation and education on the one hand and, where necessary, sanctions and enforcement on the other.
A further topic was “70 years of the Grundgesetz”, Germany’s Basic Law; an anniversary to be celebrated in 2019.
