As yesterday’s „Lokalzeit aus Duisburg“ (from approx. 3:15 min.) on WDR reported, antisemitic books were on offer at the Turkish-language „Astec Buch- und Kulturmesse“. The fair took place from 27.12.2018 to 06.01.2019 at the exhibition grounds in Rheinberg. Among them were antisemitic books such as „Der internationale Jude“ by the well-known antisemite Henry Ford and, from the ataç publishing house, the book „Höhere Intelligenz – Kaltherzige Weltordnung“ by the author Ismail Tokalak, whose cover can be found in the annex.”Der internationale Jude” by Henry Ford.

Elio Adler, chairman of the WerteInitiative jüdisch-deutsche Positionen on this: „What is incitement to hatred if not something like this? Antisemites do not hate only us Jewish women and men. The cover in particular, which shows Jews as puppet masters, serves the crude world view of all conspiracy theorists. Anyone who holds such a world view is an enemy of the free democratic society, for it denies the individual personal responsibility, freedom of decision and the scope to shape things.“
If there are said to have been mechanisms on the part of the organisers that were meant to prevent the dissemination of antisemitic trash, then they have clearly failed. If there were none, the question arises as to why the organiser had no focus on texts of hatred. Either because it was suspected that such writings would be offered at the fair, or because the organisers are at the very least indifferent to the subject – both would clearly have to be condemned and sanctioned.
What is now required is resolute action by the investigating authorities in order to clear up the case and to hold those responsible to account.
The appeals from politics, from the executive and the judiciary not to tolerate antisemitism must apply in this case and must have the corresponding consequences.
