Jewish association „WerteInitiative“ criticises the Berlin police’s handling of the antisemitic hate demo on 8 April 2023 in Neukölln Berlin, 10 April 2023 – The images are appalling. Responsibility for not breaking off the antisemitic demonstration of Saturday 8 April 2023 lies with the officer in command. The Berlin police and the Senator for the Interior must swiftly and urgently clarify why the demonstration was neither ended nor any arrests made on the spot.
Elio Adler, chairman of WerteInitiative, comments: „The demand on the police was not to decipher hidden antisemitic codes; this was more banal, clearly recognisable hatred of Jews. This is not how a democracy that defends itself operates. The damage is immense.“
For a long time we have been calling for a ban on the supposed „humanitarian organisation“ Samidoun, which in this case, as already in the past, shared responsibility for the hate demo. The several hundred demonstrators do not stand for Muslims in Germany in general – nevertheless the discernible attitude of the demonstrators is no rare exception, and unfortunately far too little criticism of this hatred is heard from within their own community. This hate demonstration and the apparent failure of the police is unsettling not only for Jewish women and men – in the face of such aggression the non-Jewish majority society should be worried too.
