Reader: Foreign policy - Jewish-German perspectives
In 2021 WerteInitiative conducted a survey among German Jews on the subject of foreign policy. The results show that 93 per cent of respondents see German foreign policy as an important component of a Jewish future in the country.
Eight thematic fields emerged from the survey. For each thematic field the reader contains a brief evaluation of the survey results, an article by experts in the respective field and a comment by WerteInitiative on each topic.
The present brochure offers an insight into Jewish perspectives on German foreign policy. This insight is neither complete nor conclusive and cannot claim to be representative, but it clearly shows that Jewish Germans have a relevant opinion on the foreign policy of their country and also want it to be heard.
The survey makes clear: many Jews in Germany wish for a more active foreign policy from their country. Not only towards Israel, but in many other fields too, they see the need to let deeds follow words. Concrete political actions that make a real difference would accordingly have to follow the clear naming and condemnation of, for example, human rights violations.
