WerteInitiative supports the statement published by the Netzwerk Jüdischer Hochschullehrender against the campaign “Kufiyas in Buchenwald”.
Buchenwald is a place of remembrance for the victims of the Shoah.
Buchenwald is not a place for perpetrator-victim reversal and Holocaust relativisation, not a stage for anti-Israel agitation and not a setting for activism that pushes Jewish perspectives aside. Anyone who seeks to overlay remembrance with a present-day political staging at a place where Jewish men and women were murdered attacks the dignity of remembrance and the foundations of our culture of remembrance.
For us it is clear: antisemitism must be named as such even when it disguises itself as supposed criticism of Israel, as symbolic politics or as competition over remembrance.
We stand alongside the Stiftung Gedenkstätten Buchenwald und Mittelbau-Dora and all those who defend dignified remembrance.
