One subject – far-reaching consequences
The WerteInitiative is an association of Jewish citizens working for a Jewish future in Germany. The essential precondition for that future is the preservation of a free, democratic society. Freedom cannot be taken for granted. It has to be safeguarded and defended by politics and by the engagement of individual citizens alike. As different as we people are, so different can that engagement be.
We, the “Circle of Friends of the WerteInitiative”, have recognised that the issues surrounding Jewish life in Germany are of fundamental importance. We are convinced that the factors securing a Jewish future in Germany serve the good of all.
The Circle of Friends of the WerteInitiative consists of citizens who stand alongside Jewish citizens on a non-partisan, non-denominational basis and on the foundation of the values of the Basic Law.
One of the leading figures of the Circle of Friends is Mr Michael Sommer, former chairman of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) and currently, among other roles, deputy chairman of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
Structure and ways of supporting us
The Circle of Friends is not an association but a simple grouping of like-minded people that supports the aims of the association WerteInitiative – jüdisch-deutsche Positionen e.V. As a “gathering point” it offers the opportunity to work in various ways for the protection of our liberal democracy, the rule of law and social cohesion.
When you are part of it:
- You can get involved to the extent your own circumstances allow.
- As part of your participation in the Circle of Friends you regularly receive the WerteInitiative newsletter and are therefore always well informed about the association’s work.
- You learn about WerteInitiative events at an early stage and can reserve places for them.
- Depending on where participants live, we will look for platforms for exchange in future.
