12-14 October 2025 in Berlin
This year the WerteInitiative – jüdisch-deutsche Positionen e. V. is organising a Leadership Seminar in the federal capital for the second time for already politically engaged people as well as journalists, who have a lasting interest in democracy education and who wish to place a focus on Jewish life and Jewish topics . The multi-day programme leads right into political Berlin. In doing so, the participants gain, in the framework of personal meetings and discussions in the Bundestag, at the federal government and Jewish organisations as well as socially relevant actors , a direct insight into the broad spectrum of topics surrounding Jewish life. The aim is to strengthen the participants in their own political engagement or in their journalistic background knowledge and work through informative discussion formats and mutual dialogue and to foster a deeper understanding of Jewish-German cross-cutting themes and structures .
Application deadline: 12 September 2025
Why take part?
Get to know the political and social structures surrounding Jewish life in Germany. Look at the larger contexts, because what concerns Jewish citizens are not exclusive minority topics. From our experience in dealing with anti-democratic forces we know how the rejection of our free and democratic basic order – the basis of our peaceful coexistence – usually also expresses itself in hostility towards Jews. Jewish-German topics are thus a cornerstone of a free and democratic society. The participants of the Leadership Seminar receive first-hand input and will realise: it is only a short step to the fundamental questions that are essential for society as a whole and for democracy. Various discussion rounds will offer the opportunity to build a network for exchange and information among the participants themselves, with us and with other interlocutors. Engaging with the shared experiences in the sense of a lived democratic pluralism is a leitmotif here.
Who?
The political Leadership Seminar is aimed specifically at two target groups:
1. People living in Germany who are already politically engaged and over 18 years of age. With this we would like to give people interested from outside the Jewish environment the opportunity to become sensitised to the relevance of Jewish topics and to offer them, in a varied and intensive programme, personal opportunities to encounter the current political engagement of and for Jews. People who are still at the beginning of their political career are also expressly welcome. They should, however, at least have been elected to a function/office/task within political structures and have gathered first relevant experience in politics.
2. In addition we also invite people from the journalistic field with a completed traineeship and first published works to take part.
How?
Send us your CV and a meaningful letter of motivation (max. 2 pages) as well as relevant evidence of your political or journalistic activity to: kontakt@werteinitiative.de
In your letter please also set out your relationship to the content above (under “Who?”). As the number of participants is limited, we ask you to register promptly. The closing date for applications is 13.10.2024. We are happy to answer any questions at any time via the e-mail address given above. Both the confirmations of participation and the rejections will be sent by 04.11.2024. We look forward to your application!
What?
A varied and demanding 3-day programme is planned. Through a mixture of discussion rounds with important organisations, visits to Bundestag parliamentary groups and panel discussions, an exciting, enriching and interactive experience is offered. Diverse catering ensures your physical well-being. There will furthermore be sufficient time for exchange and networking among each other. Overnight stays take place in a centrally located hotel. The costs for travel, accommodation, meals, transport to the event venues and the events themselves are covered by the organiser. Reimbursement limits apply in accordance with the Bundesreisekostengesetz.
