Berlin, capital and metropolis, unites the opportunities and risks of a plural society. This was also apparent in the broad range of topics of our conversation with Berlin’s Senator for the Interior Andreas Geisel (SPD) and his State Secretary Torsten Akmann.Besides the perennial topic of the Al-Quds march, the subject was the right way to deal with the conspiracy fantasies and calls to violence surrounding the so-called „hygiene demos“. We also presented our current discussion trilogy: „360° – Bedrohungen für jüdisches Leben in Deutschland und Gefahren für die freiheitliche Demokratie!“ (360° – threats to Jewish life in Germany and dangers to liberal democracy!). Finally, we spoke with Senator Geisel about the sense and nonsense of the concepts of race and racism. In this connection we regard the wording in the Landesantidiskriminierungsgesetz, „racist and antisemitic attributions“, as pointing the way for further amendments to other laws as well.
