++++++ Press release on the outcome of the Conference of Interior Ministers of 18 October 2019 following the attack in Halle +++++++++
The closing statement of the Conference of Interior Ministers points the right way towards greater security for Jewish citizens. Beyond this, we also welcome its positive effect on public safety, which reaches far beyond the subject of “antisemitic violence” and right-wing extremism, for a strengthened and more efficient security architecture in Germany serves society as a whole.
Naturally, the success of these measures depends on how they are put into practice. Here we would wish to see a courageous implementation of the intentions now agreed.
Daniel Kohn, member of the board of the WerteInitiative – jüdisch-deutsche Positionen, comments: “Increased security measures do not combat the actual hatred of Jews. They merely protect potential victims from its violent manifestation. Antisemitism must be fought with a 360-degree plan spanning society, schools, the media and the law. What is decisive is a lived, values-conscious democracy that treasures and protects its freedom.”
