No red carpet for those who disregard our values of freedom! The Berlin CDU chairman and member of the Bundestag Kai Wegner had already criticised Berlin’s Governing Mayor, Michael Müller, on 5 September: “Antisemitic agitators must not be courted in Berlin”. He was referring to the reception given to the Mayor of Tehran on Friday 6 September at the Rotes Rathaus, Berlin’s city hall.
In our conversation, Kai Wegner and we agreed that the Iranian regime, with its political and religious agenda, contradicts not only where antisemitism is concerned but in respect of all the values Berlin stands for: tolerance, freedom, equality, and live and let live.
A further topic was how the public might once again gain greater trust in politics and in state structures.
