For years no country in the world has been subjected to as many UN resolutions as Israel. All the resolutions against unjust regimes such as Syria, North Korea, Somalia, Cuba or even Iran taken together do not come close to those against Israel. Now there has been a further excess within the UN, with 9 (!) UN resolutions against Israel raining down in a single day. Only a few countries voted against these immoderate resolutions, among them the USA, Israel itself, Canada and some smaller states. Germany voted eight times in favour of resolutions against Israel and abstained once, on the resolution calling for a “special committee to investigate Israeli practices”. Israel needs Germany’s solidarity, for it is not only a life insurance policy for Jews around the world but must also be protected against a one-sidedly critical and prejudiced lack of restraint on the part of the UN. The Federal Government must not allow itself to be harnessed to the arbitrary designs of a number of states that misuse the UN for their aversions towards Israel. We shall shortly present our dismay at how our home – Germany – conducts itself towards Israel in person at the Auswärtiges Amt, the German Federal Foreign Office.
