WerteInitiative – jüdisch-deutsche Positionen (WI) is organising an educational trip to the federal capital for young adults who have a lasting interest in, and commitment to, political democracy education from a Jewish-German perspective. The multi-day leadership programme for young talent offers direct insight into political Berlin. Participants are given the opportunity to fill the abstract image of “politicians” and their work with concrete content. In meetings with members of the Bundestag from several parliamentary groups, former members of the Bundestag, Jewish politicians and representatives of the political foundations, participants can receive first-hand input on important skills, insights and experiences for political work. The aim is to motivate participants towards lasting political engagement in democratic parties and to build a network among themselves for exchange and potential cooperation.
Application deadline: 17.10.2021 / Participation fee: 30 euros

Why?
Jewish citizens of Germany are severely underrepresented in politics. With the support of the Jüdische Studierendenunion Deutschland (JSUD) and the Europäische Janusz Korczak Akademie (EJKA), our project aims at greater participation by Jewish people – or people close to Jewish-German issues – in the democratic parties and in politics.
Participants in the educational trip should have the opportunity to get to know federal politicians, to ask them about their political career paths and to understand how one finds one’s way through the “thicket” between constituency group and state list, direct mandates and working groups, and can follow one’s own path. Participants should furthermore be shown the particular way in which Jewish-German issues are linked to the foundational pillars of a free and democratic society. Added value is also conceivable for the participating politicians from the Bundestag parliamentary groups: in direct contact they experience and learn at first hand what concerns citizens from our section of the population.
Who?
The call for applications is aimed at all politically interested people over the age of 18 living in Germany. A connection to Jewish participation and engagement, or a sustained involvement with Jewish-German issues, is a prerequisite for taking part in the educational trip.
