Especially in the metropolis of Berlin, the rule of law is repeatedly challenged and unfortunately sometimes overstretched. Yet the rule of law and security are core tasks of the state. If deficits arise here, this has a significance going far beyond the mere shortcoming: citizens’ trust in the state’s ability to act is lost and extremists of every stripe can gain ground. Senior public prosecutor Ralph Knispel, who is at the same time chairman of the Vereinigung Berliner Staatsanwälte, has long been known as a critical but constructive mind who does not shy away from naming problems openly. In the meeting with the chairman of the WerteInitiative, a similar assessment of the situation in the criminal prosecution and justice apparatus quickly became clear. Over the coming weeks we will continue to coordinate on whether and how we can make the exchange more constructive in future.
