Berlin as a melting pot of different people also confronts the Verfassungsschutz with demanding tasks. In the conversation with the head of the Berlin Verfassungsschutz, Michael Fischer, whom we had already been able to get to know at the round table against antisemitic violence initiated by the interior administration, it quickly became clear that we are of one mind regarding the opponents of democracy. There was also agreement that the various enemies of the free and democratic society often have antisemitism as a shared characteristic. At the meeting, Mr Fischer emphasised that the work of the Berlin Verfassungsschutz seeks to be clearly recognisable in the fact that we Jews can live in safety in Berlin. To be able to achieve this, a broad spectrum of measures is needed, to which the security authorities can contribute only one (important) part.
