Press statement: on the ban on Hamas and PFLP flags:
We very much welcome the fact that the CDU/CSU and SPD governing coalition has agreed to ban the symbols of Hamas and the PFLP.
At present there is still no link between the EU terrorist list and consequences within Germany, i.e. organisations that are on this list by unanimous decision of all EU states can be active within Germany unhindered. The intended link between the EU terrorist list and a ban on the symbols is a correct first step. It must still be followed by the corresponding bans on associations or activities. In a dossier on the PFLP and its front organisations, WerteInitiative had already called for such bans a few weeks ago.
The chairman of the Jewish association WerteInitiative said on this: „It is incomprehensible that organisations which are on the EU terrorist list are allowed to conduct ideological propaganda in Germany with their symbols. The antisemitic riots at the demonstrations a few weeks ago showed the tip of an iceberg of hatred. The ban on the symbols of HAMAS and the PFLP, among others, is one of many measures suitable for standing up against this hatred.“
