There is currently a high level of threat from right-wing extremism and right-wing terrorism. And it is not only antisemitism – even though it is once again moving to the fore of right-wing extremist agitation – that poses a danger to liberal democracy. The rise of the so-called „New Right“ is causing a shift of discourse that reaches into the bourgeois camp. The so-called „New Right“ serves here as a supplier of catchwords. Conspiracy myths of the „New Right“, such as the „great replacement“, are repeatedly mentioned in statements by right-wing terrorists. This connection urgently needs to be pointed out.
This threat situation calls not only on politics and the security authorities, but also on civil society. Contradicting and refuting is a central possibility here.
A new type of perpetrator, one who is not anchored in fixed neo-Nazi structures, currently represents a new challenge for the security authorities. Greater powers in online surveillance could open up possible scope for picking up the trail of such perpetrators at an early stage.
The fight against right-wing extremism is a fight for liberal democracy!
