Not yet 31 years old and already serving his second term in the Bundestag: Johannes Steiniger MdB (CDU) from Neustadt-Speyer in Rhineland-Palatinate met us today to discuss above all the subject of Israel-related antisemitism. We – Susanne Stephan and Elio Adler – encountered an open-minded and interested interlocutor who takes the trouble to question prejudices spread through the media. It mattered to us to illustrate that the at times unfair attacks on Israel in the media and in politics create fertile ground for new antisemitism in Germany and thus account for part of the shift in public mood for the worse.
