Another case of what appears to be racist, xenophobic violence. We are shocked, and our thoughts are with the victims and their relatives. Many of them are reported to be of Kurdish origin. We wish the injured a swift and full recovery. As a small minority of Jewish citizens, we stand in solidarity alongside the larger Kurdish minority against every form of hatred and violence. Such terrible events are a challenge to our free and democratic society and to the rule of law. Regrettably, the first voices seeking to exploit the resulting unease for their own agenda were heard immediately. The security authorities must be able to do their work. This is a moment in which the rule of law, and not populists of any persuasion, should set the tone. We owe that to the dignity of the victims and to the protection of our free society.
