Antisemitic violence is growing – is the state failing?
Dr Ronen Steinke reads from his new book “Terror gegen Juden”

Where: Literaturhandlung Berlin, Joachimsthaler Str. 13, 10719 BerlinIn Germany people have grown accustomed to conditions to which one must never grow accustomed: Jewish schools have to be guarded by armed personnel, Jewish services take place under police protection, threats are an everyday occurrence. Hatred of Jews does not diminish through police protection, and court judgements convert no antisemites. Nevertheless it is the police and the courts that have to confront the manifestation of this hatred.
The Jewish author Ronen Steinke, himself a lawyer, has travelled through Germany and tells of Jewish life in a state of siege. He meets rabbis and police officers, state security officials, intelligence officers and ministers. Much has to change in Germany. We will talk with him about what in his opinion ought to be done.
The event will be moderated by the journalist Gilda Sahebi.
The event will take place in compliance with coronavirus-related distancing rules. The number of seats is severely limited. Registrations will be taken into account in order of receipt and as far as possible.
The journalist and author will read from his book and will afterwards be in conversation with the journalist Gilda Sahebi and with the audience.
