In this episode we look at Iran – and not only at individual headlines, but at the dynamics behind them: cycles of protest and the stability of the regime, the opposition inside the country and in the diaspora, and the role of the Revolutionary Guards, the IRGC. We put into context what distinguishes these protests from those of 2022 and earlier, what effects the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has, and we also talk about the role of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. It is also about how antisemitic regime propaganda works and what now has to happen politically. Our guest is Fathiyeh Naghibzadeh. She comes from Iran, has lived in exile in Germany since 1985, is a co-founder of the Mideast Freedom Forum Berlin and has for many years worked and advised on the politics, structure and ideology of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on the situation of women and on antisemitism.
