Distorted perception, perpetrator-victim reversal, a one-sided focus on the war between Israel and Hamas: in this episode we speak with Ben Segenreich about misunderstandings concerning Israel, about the way in which the media and politicians report on Israel, about anti-Zionist narratives that have long since become socially acceptable – and about the ever-same mechanisms that are at work. Ben Segenreich – for many years an Israel correspondent, Middle East expert, author and commentator – traces the image of Israel in European public perception and also reports on the resonance this finds in Israeli society. The conversation also turns to the question of whether and what is changing in public discourse now that the last surviving hostages have returned to Israel. Ben Segenreich was born in Vienna and has lived in Israel since 1983.
