Four years ago today, the terrible right-wing terrorist attack in Halle took place. On 9 October 2019, on Yom Kippur, the highest Jewish holiday, the perpetrator planned to carry out a massacre in the synagogue in Halle. When this failed, he murdered the passer-by Jana Lange in the street, stormed into the snack bar „Kiez-Döner“ and murdered a customer there – Kevin Schwarze. He broadcast his deed live on the internet. The perpetrator was arrested and in December 2020, in the „Halle trial“, sentenced by the Higher Regional Court of Naumburg to life imprisonment with preventive detention.
Those affected by and the survivors of the attack demanded better protection for the Jewish community. The community had previously received no police protection despite a specific request. Today we speak with Christina Feist, a survivor of the Halle attack and a joint plaintiff in the “Halle trial”, about how her life has changed since 9 October 2019 and what her demands on politics and society are.
