Germany’s relationship with Israel is of particular importance for Jews. One of the key positions in this respect is that of the German ambassador to Israel and former spokesman of the Federal Government, Steffen Seibert. Ambassador Seibert expressed concern that, according to surveys, Israel’s image in Germany is considerably worse than Germany’s image in Israel.
Our chairman cited, among other things, Germany’s voting behaviour at the UN as one of the causes of this.
Both agreed: the special relationship between Israel and Germany is based on a painful history. Today, however, the friendship and partnership between the two countries is developing through shared values and many shared interests.
