A commissioner for antisemitism is throwing in the towel. Until recently, Stefan Hensel was the antisemitism commissioner of the city of Hamburg. He is stepping down from his post – we talk about the reasons, the personal attacks and the strains that led to this decision. In the WI-Talk, Hensel takes stock: what was he able to achieve? Where did he come up against limits? The conversation also covers what a commissioner for antisemitism is able to do and the question of “visible Jewish life”. Hensel speaks not only about what makes the work of combating antisemitism particularly difficult, but also about what makes it hopeful, where there are positive examples and where political support is lacking.
