BUNT*уй means “rebel” in Russian and contains the German word bunt (colourful). On the occasion of Pride Month, which is about the visibility and social participation of the LGBTIQ+ community, we invited two exciting guests to the WI-Talk.
Quarteera e. V. is an association that creates services for a Russian-speaking LGBTIQ* community. This year they are organising the Marzahn Pride Week.
Keshet Deutschland e.V. is the first Jewish-queer organisation in Germany. Keshet e.V. has made it its task, on the one hand, to provide information about LGBTIQ+ topics in Jewish spaces and, on the other, to bring Jewish perspectives into LGBTIQ+ spaces and into heteronormative majority society.
About 90% of the Jews living in Germany have a background from the states of the former Soviet Union. Creating services for queer people, such as counselling, exchange and safe spaces, holds great importance in the work of both organisations. Anna Staroselski spoke with Christina Shneydin (Quarteera e. V.) and David Bakum (Keshet Deutschland e. V.) about their commitment, about the significance of visibility and empowerment of LGBTIQ+ people and about the origins of the Marzahn Pride.
The Marzahn Pride Week began last Saturday and comes to a close this Saturday with the Marzahn Parade.
