Karoline Preisler is a German FDP politician who has become known for her courageous activism in support of Israel. Since 7 October 2023 she has regularly attended pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Germany, but on the opposing side, in order to defend Israel. With placards such as “R@pe is not resistance” and “Believe Israeli Women” she sends a strong signal against the glorification of terror and against antisemitism. She often protests alone, standing in front of crowds ready to use violence who threaten and attack her. She is frequently protected by the police, as the level of threat against her has increased sharply. We spoke with her about her activism, which has also attracted attention in the media. Preisler sees it as her moral duty not to remain silent, because ignoring such violence reinforces antisemitic attitudes. Despite numerous attacks, including physical ones, she remains steadfast and continues her commitment to Israel and against hatred.
