The picture of Israel and of the people living there is often distorted and one-sided in German reporting. Many stories and personal fates go unmentioned. The freelance journalist Sarah Maria Sander has set herself the goal of conveying a fuller picture of the situation on the ground and of Israeli society. Since 7 October she has regularly published videos on her social media accounts in which she reports personally, directly and empathetically on the situation in Israel. Most recently she travelled through the evacuated areas along the Lebanese border in the north of the country – a region that is barely mentioned in the news. In the WI-Talk she spoke about what drives her and about the experiences she has had in Israel and in Germany in the course of her work.
