On 12.05. we spoke with Thomas Hacker (FDP), the media policy spokesman and the Free Democrats’ representative in the German Bundestag’s Committee on Culture and Media. Besides the presentation of the WerteInitiative’s work, the messenger service „Telegram“ was the focus of our exchange.
In the view of the WerteInitiative, Telegram is becoming a retreat for conspiracy myths, disinformation campaigns and radicalisation. The legal gap that Telegram does not fall under the NetzDG must be closed as quickly as possible.
Mr Hacker, too, sees an urgent need for action: „We must act against hate speech with all determination – the digital space is not a space free of law.“ We share this approach.
Beyond that, we thank Mr Hacker for his commitment in the Thomas-Dehler-Stiftung. Educational work is one of the most effective methods against the division of society.
