At Pessach we remember the exodus from Egypt, which is synonymous with liberation from slavery. Freedom always goes hand in hand with personal responsibility – which is why our society needs a strong foundation of values that offer a basis for this personal responsibility. The Pessach song “What distinguishes this night from all the other nights?” takes on a special meaning this year: this year “responsibility” means temporarily giving up parts of our freedomand nevertheless upholding and defending our democratic values.
