Motion against antisemitism in the Bundestag

Today a positively historic motion against antisemitism was adopted in the Bundestag. In its comprehensiveness and strength it is suited to the current situation and sets the course in the right direction. It is now up to the Federal Government to let deeds follow words. Elio Adler, Chairman of the WerteInitiative, comments: “Even if the occasion for this motion is a sad one, we are relieved by today’s positive vote of almost all parties in the Bundestag, because it shows that the point has been understood: antisemitism is a scourge that harms not only us Jews. Antisemitism is a gauge of the condition of our society. This motion clearly reflects that, because it names the most varied of ‘wounds’. Great importance attaches to the newly demanded office of the Commissioner against Antisemitism, for if he or she works to heal these wounds, he or she thereby heals society as a whole.” As a Jewish-German civil-society voice, the WerteInitiative will gladly support and accompany this undertaking – in particular the establishment of a Commissioner against Antisemitism.
