In response to our open letter to Mr Kauder, which was signed by a number of members of the Bundestag from various parties, Daniel Kohn and Elio Adler of the WerteInitiative board were invited to a meeting with Volker Kauder. Also present were, among others, the CDU/CSU parliamentary group’s rapporteur on antisemitism, Mr Axel Müller (right), and MP Albert Weiler (left).
Among other things, we spoke about the positive effects that a duty to report antisemitic incidents at schools would have, and about the fact that the benefit would extend far beyond the subject of “Jews”. If those who come to attention through antisemitic incidents were given particular educational attention, a high percentage of them would be people who are also otherwise in conflict with the free democratic basic order. “Antisemitism” would therefore merely be the occasion for taking action; the effect would be considerably more far-reaching.
A further exchange has been agreed.
