On tomorrow’s motion by the Berlin CDU to propose an amendment to the law in the Bundesrat that would prohibit the burning of flags, Elio Adler of the Jewish WerteInitiative said: “Anyone who burns flags is abusing the right to freedom of expression. Burning a flag does not stand for political argument; the message it contains is that those who think differently should be annihilated. We therefore hope that the motion will find a broad majority. Last week we already wrote to the Governing Mayor, Michael Müller, and to the parliamentary group leader, Raed Saleh, to express this hope.”
