“Jüdische Positionen zur Bundestagswahl 2017” was sent to the parties for comment together with the following covering letter:
We, a group of Jewish Germans, have been working for almost three years to strengthen the free democratic basic order, because we fear that social peace and a life in Germany shaped by freedom, mutual respect and tolerance are in danger. In this context we have held a great many background discussions with members of the Bundestag and with public figures.
During the coming legislative period, Germany and Europe will face the greatest of challenges, in the light of which it is more important than ever to set the social and political course correctly.
We therefore consider it necessary for us, as Jewish Germans, to take part in the political discussion as a voice of civil society. Please find enclosed our position paper for the federal election. The signatories of the paper are to be understood as its authors. On the list of supporters you will find, “unfiltered”, those who, after publication, considered our points worth supporting with their name.
In order to give the approximately 100,000 Jewish Germans entitled to vote, and the roughly equal number of German passport holders living in Israel, some guidance for their decision at the ballot box, we ask you for a statement on where your party stands on the individual points and whether and how you intend to incorporate these points into your policies.
We request your replies by 6 June so that we can publish them – accompanied by media coverage – on 12 June.
