Meeting with Federal Minister of Justice Dr Marco Buschmann (FDP)

On 22 August, our chairman Elio Adler and the spokesperson of WerteInitiative, Leonard Kaminski, met the Federal Minister of Justice with an extensive list of topics and concerns.

After a general presentation of our work, three subject areas were particularly important to us:

  1. Greater awareness-raising among judges in the field of antisemitism.
  2. Taking antisemitic and, more generally, anti-free-democratic motivations behind criminal offences into account when determining the sentence. Here the “FDGO protective shield paragraph” §46.2. is an important instrument for protecting society.
  3. The values of our Basic Law must be positively perceived and made possible to experience. The anniversary of the Basic Law, 23 May, would offer a good opportunity for this. Together with other people in positions of responsibility, we want to consider how this could be implemented.

Minister Buschmann not only had an open ear for our topics but is also thoroughly familiar with many of the challenges that we as Jewish people in Germany face.

We warmly thank Minister Buschmann for the good conversation and have agreed to continue the exchange.
