In our meeting today with the Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Stephan Mayer, the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic were of course among the topics. In addition to coping with the pandemic itself, the question in future will be what lessons we all draw from the situation. We must succeed in further consolidating what has proved to work in a time of crisis. But whatever proved to be inadequate must be named, tackled and improved.
What does that have to do with WerteInitiative? We are experiencing more and more disenchantment with democracy and an increasingly aggressive mood among citizens. Because a free and democratic society can only function if it is supported by a large social majority, this pent-up frustration has a high potential for escalation and thus endangers our peaceful coexistence, all of us. And it is precisely the promotion of this coexistence that is the concern of our association as well as of State Secretary Stephan Mayer.
Many warm thanks for the conversation!
