Precisely in times of rising antisemitic incidents, a well-founded basis for identifying the various forms of hatred of Jews is indispensable. In Germany and beyond, the working definition of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance is officially established for this purpose. As a democratic society we have a clear responsibility to counter misanthropy and inequality with practical measures as well. Where the strength of the IHRA definition lies in this respect, how its insights can be translated into political practice and what the tasks of the state and of civil society are – we discussed these and other questions with the antisemitism researcher and contact person of the State of Berlin on antisemitism, Prof. Dr Samuel Salzborn.
